Hi friends. Meet Ruby Bridges.
On November 14th, 1960 ~ sixty years ago, federal marshals escorted her past angry, threatening crowds and up the steps of the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans.
Bridges was one of the first Black students to integrate public schools after the Supreme Court's landmark ruling in Brown versus Board of Education.
The image of a young Bridges walking in front of hate speech scrawled on a wall became iconic in Norman Rockwell's painting
"The Problem We All Live With".
This painting appeared in the January 14, 1964 edition of LOOK Magazine, after Rockwell departed the Saturday Evening Post (where he'd done 363 covers over the years). The Post didn't want him to depict people of color in anything other than service industry jobs so he found a home @ LOOK where this aspect of his work was welcomed (and he gained more critical acceptance of his work by doing so).
Norman Rockwell (1894-1978), "The Problem We All Live With," 196
When Rockwell passed in 1978 (I read about it in the Anchorage Daily News during my time living in Alaska), the song "Norman's Way" came into being which you can hear on my 2015 Stockfisch album "Will You Come Home".

This original painting was displayed outside the Oval Office in 2011 during Barack Obama's first term as President.

This month's online concert is the "Gratitude Music Hour" the night before Thanksgiving ~ Wednesday, November 25th ~ 7 PM
on the David Roth Music page on Facebook
"How Many Ways Can I Be Grateful",
"Thank You Mr. Ryan", "May the Light of Love", special guest Glen Roethel, and a brand new song "Regular Joe" will be included. Know anyone who'd like to experience some musical gratitude that night? Kindly invite them.
This is once more a free concert, and utterly voluntary donations are graciously received but not expected. Come to that Facebook Link (above) a little before 7 to say hi and tune in.
