In spite of our wishes, still plenty to fix
The country is torn and the thread's hard to find
That would patch us together and keep us entwined

Health, education, and welfare are suffering
And gas prices soar and it seems there's no buffering
Of ethnic division and polarization
A sad state in which we've un-Earthed our great nation

We lost James Brown, Gerald Ford, and Saddam
But I got to spend Christmas here with my Mom
Who is 80-years young and reminds me to groove
On the myriad of things on which we can improve

And it all starts with love and respect for all life
So I'll pay more attention to my loving wife
When I do that for her, she returns it to me
And a circle of loving is what we will be

And we spin and we vibrate so others may feel
This voltage of love and it's power to heal
My wishes and hopes for this new chunk of time?
